I saw a hero today, a man towing a small trailer with a red NB2 Miata.

We used to have a small clam-shell trailer that was towed behind a miata for autocrossing back in the day. It was the only way to take the miata with a set of race tires, jack, tool box, helmets, other autocross paraphernalia and a weeks worth of luggage for two people to nationals or any other out of town event without towing the whole car via the family truckster.
It actually towed just fine even with a 1.6l NA. Combined with putting the hard top on, it made a miata a livable car to drive half-way across the country for two people for six minuets of racing.

Just gotta pack lighter!
Although the luggage rack can certainly fit a full size bag, just wont be able to open the trunk lid without removing it with the tires strapped down in the way. The only downsides are losing top up ability and obviously using the center mirror, but its manageable.

This car never had a roll bar, and even if it did driving the car 800 miles to Topeka and back during the summer without hitting a thunderstorm at any point would be a pretty bold bet.
There’s also the problem of driving a miata for more than a few hundred miles at interstate speeds without the hard top. You can do it, but it isn’t fun. The hardtop cut down the wind noise enough to not go crazy after about 250 miles.

What is this rain thing?? Especially in the summer time. I have a better chance of getting hit by a meteor probably lol. But yeah the longest distance I have gone with wheels strapped like that has been like 4 hours.
